Just received word of the passing of Bobby Zane.YN1(SS).He was our new construction Yeoman and the Gold Crew Yeoman on the first two or three patrols. He lived in Tulsa Okla. with his dog Wino.Him and Pepper had been divorced for a few years , but Pepper had remarried and still lived around Tulsa.He was retired from the Navy and also from the U.S. Post Office.

Born 29 October 1932 in Protection, Kansas, Mr. Zane later retired with honors from the United State Naval Submarine Service.During his naval career, which spanned both the Korean and Vietnam wars, he served on an aircraft carrier as well as both diesel and nuclear submarines.He served with many legends of the early nuclear navy, including Admiral Hyman Rickover and Captain Edward Beach; the latter with whom he completed the first submerged circumnavigation of the globe aboard the USS Triton in 1960, retracing the route originally charted by Ferdinand Magellan 441 years earlier.In later years, he also retired from the US Postal Service.Bob was universally loved by friends and family for his generous and caring spirit.

Bob had colon cancer.He had a bout with it about 15 yrs ago, but thought he had beat it, but it came back.He wil be having a full military funeral and buried in the veterans section of the cemetary.Bob had two children, Doreen and a son named Ronnie, who also lives in Tulsa.
