Dai Yu
Dai Yu joined Shell in China on 1 December 2006 as Senior Manager Chemicals Projects.
He was appointed to his current position of General Manager Base Chemicals Asia Pacific Middle East, based in Singapore, on 1 June 2007.
Dai Yu began his petrochemical career in Sinopec in China in 1990.
He undertook many roles in Sinopec including shift operator, shift supervisor, operation engineer and production manager in an ethylene plant.
In 1993, he became deputy director of the Joint Venture Project Department of Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Co (YPC), responsible for the feasibility study and government approval of the Sinopec/BASF JV Styrenics Project.
In 1994, when the JV company Yangzi-BASF Styrenics Co Ltd was formed, he was appointed deputy project director and, with BASF colleagues, built an EB/SM plant, PS plant and utilities on a grass-field site.
After the successful start up of the project in 1998, he became director of the JV Project Department of the Sinopec/BASF Integrated Petrochemical Site in Sinopec where he was responsible for the feasibility study and government approval of the Sinopec/BASF JV Integrated Petrochemical Site (IPS) Project.
In 2000, the JV company BASF-YPC Co Ltd was formed and Dai Yu became General Manager Base Chemicals, as well as project sponsor of the Base Chemicals Complex and Syngas projects in the project implementation phase.
In 2003, he moved to CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals Co Ltd (CSPCL) as Lower Olefins Plant Manager and deputy to the Manufacturing Director.
He remained with CSPCL until the successful startup and stabilisation of site production in November 2006.
Dai Yu has double Masters degrees in Mathematics and Chemical Engineering and a Ph D in Chemical System Engineering.
He is married with one daughter and enjoys sports such as climbing, tennis, swimming, basketball and fishing.
