Charlene Boyce Young (Ecology Action Centre) will lead musicians and environmental experts to compare notes to determine what's happening now, what could improve music's "green standard," and what should happen next. In particular, we hope to discuss areas including transportation, packaging/distribution/tour logistics, music's influence on venues, fans and personal responsibility. Along with Charlene, Kari Riddell (Clean Nova Scotia), Zac Crouse (Caledonia) and Louise Hanavan (Grand Sass) will share their green expertise.

Increased consumer consumption and increased construction activity contributed to the increase in the disposal rate, said Charlene Boyce Young at the Ecology Action Centre, but she said "green fatigue" may also be a factor.

"People have a lot of demands on their time and when it comes to recycling some might be getting lazy," she said.

A more aggressive effort to get people to stop using, or to recycle, plastic water bottles would be a good way to lower the disposal rate, she suggested.

Charlene Boyce Young, AST's communications officer who had joined staff this spring, has accepted a position with the Ecology Action Centre. Despite her brief tenure in the position, Charlene has developed many friendships in the AST community and will miss them all.
