Charlena Young was still in residential treatment when she graduated from STRIVE DC in 2001. With SDC's help, she got her first job working for CVS making $6.50 hr.After that Ms. Young increased her earning power and experience, working at Ritz Camera, then as an Assistant Manager at MOTO Photo in Union Station. But it was at the Holy Comforter/St. Cyprian Community Action Group (CAG) where she discovered her vocation when they hired her as their Alumni Coordinator and then Intake Coordinator. While working at CAG, she enrolled at The College of Southern Maryland and graduated with honors from their certificate program in Human Services Alcohol and Drug Counseling. In 2009, she will earn her Associates Degree in Human Services. Ms. Young credits STRIVE DC for putting her "back on the map. And to those who said "that it could not be done," she wants everybody to know, she did it! We salute her.
