These proportions agree in general with those reported by Young and Ashton. (18) Both figures are undoubtedly underestimates since they are based on spontaneous reports by doctors, many of whom are unaware of the existence of antidepressant withdrawal symptoms. (21) In small clinical studies involving 6-17 patients, the incidence of withdrawal reactions was 38.5% and 50% for paroxetine (22,23) and 28% for fluvoxamine, (24), while a 34.5% incidence was reported in 55 patients with panic disorder who were withdrawn from paroxetine after 12 weeks of treatment.
