    According to Alissa Young, HCC Dean of Academic Affairs, "We are proud to announce that students who graduate from an area high school with an interest in music will now have an opportunity to continue their studies in music while completing their general education requirements at HCC."

    She said the agreement between HCC and PAFA allows students to participate in the community chorus offered by PAFA and earn credit from HCC at the same time.

    Hopkinsville Community College is a strong supporter of advancing of the fine arts in the Pennyroyal Region and this agreement will enhance interest in the Community Chorus by offering a one hour music course, MUC 192, University Choristers, starting October 20, 2008. This course, open to all students, will be added to the college curriculum and registration for the course will be through the normal college process. "The class will begin Monday, Oct. 20, at 6:00 p.m. The Community Chorus will rehearse weekly in the HCC Auditorium and will present a community concert at the close of each semester," added Young.

    Young, who had been associate dean of academic affairs has now been named acting chief academic affairs officer.She began working at HCC in August 1991 as coordinator of the communications technology program.She is a professor of communications and has served as chairman of Fine Arts and Humanities and as associate dean for academic extensions.

    Young earned her bachelor's degree in broadcast communication from Murray State University in 1989 and her master's degree in organizational communications from Murray in 1993.
