    As an integral part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's ongoing efforts to fight illicit drug abuse and underage drinking, Earline N. Yokoi was appointed as the state's first drug control liaison, according to a release from the Lieutenant governor's office.The new position was formed in response to a recommendation from the Lt.Gov.'s Hawaii Drug Control Strategy Summit in September 2003, to designate one person to oversee the state's control efforts.

    Yokoi is currently a criminal justice planning specialist with the state Department of the Attorney General -- her new position takes effect on Jan. 21.Yokoi will work directly with Lt.Gov.

    Yokoi has more than 25 years of experience in human services and criminal justice fields.She joined the Attorney General's office in 1987, where her responsibilities included applying for and managing federal and state grants relating to criminal and juvenile justice.She was involved in obtaining the initial planning grant for Hawaii's first drug court.Yokoi has also managed federal grant funds to support projects relating to narcotics task forces, clandestine drug laboratories, as well as drug testing and treatment for juvenile and adult probationers, inmates and parolees.
