Merritt S. Merritt brings four years' experience in the Chief Counsel's Office for the IRS to his extensive background in taxation issues.He has served as Chairman of the Estate Planning and Administration Section of the Oregon State Bar, and is presently licensed to practice law in Oregon and California.In addition to writing articles on the taxation of damages, valuation of business enterprises, and general partnerships, Merritt lectures at numerous seminars for the Oregon State Bar and the Oregon Society for Certified Public Accountants.
Community involvement is very important to Merritt, whose work as Board President of the Estate Planning Council of Portland helped it become the leading estate planning organization in the Pacific Northwest.He is presently the Treasurer of the Jewish Federation of Portland, where he oversees the Finance Committee.As the President of Congregation Neveh Shalom, he helped lead a thousand-member congregation through troubled times.He is also a member of a Muslim-Jewish coalition that advocates religious pluralism.
Merritt has been an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Portland and is its President.He is also a past President of its Foundation.
In addition, Merritt serves on the Contemporary Art Council at the Portland Art Museum, and collects ceramics and glass.
