Since sealing the deal a year ago, EachNet has gradually been integrated into eBay's worldwide system -- a process that will be complete with the Friday launch of a mirror EachNet site (www.ebay.com.cn), said EachNet chairman Shao Yibo in an interview at the company's Shanghai headquarters.

"There are a lot of worldwide features (on eBay) that are not in China that would be useful locally," said Shao, who at 31 is a throwback to the Internet bubble wunderkinds of the 1990s.

ChinaBiz (CB): Why are you working in the private sector, and not for a state-owned or foreign company?

Shao Yibo (SY): The likely choice I would have made would be to remain in the US, and continue to work for either an investment bank or consultant or venture capital firm. The reason I came back to start my own business was because I wanted to create a significant impact on the world, and what better way to make an impact than to start a business in Internet.

CB: When does Eachnet plan to list on the stock market?

SY: We are working on internal readiness which is improving our model, making it work and executing it, and then the listing should happen almost naturally when all internal and external requirements are met.We plan to get fairly close to profitability before we list.
