How I got into coaching: My high school coach Larry Yee asked me if I had any interest in coaching basketball.

On APAs in sports: It's great that Asians are playing and competing more and more in sports worldwide.

"People appreciate that there is finally a Chinese player here," Larry Yee, boys' basketball coach at San Francisco's George Washington High School told the Chronicle.

Larry Yee, a Washington High math teacher and former basketball coach, said that increasing shortages in athletics does not bode well for the district.

"If you push on one part, it's a ripple effect that will ruin the entire entity," Yee said.

Yee founded the George Washington High School Basketball Foundation to support its boys and girls teams.It runs car washes and youth basketball camps.But the new round of cuts worry Yee.

"We're very fortunate that our basketball alumni have kept us afloat," Yee said, "but you can only squeeze them for so long."

"McAteer is tough to beat because they have so many weapons", said Washington coach Larry Yee."I was happy that our players played hard."

Lee was already looking towards Eagles' next game, a showdown against Balboa."I think we have the ability to play with the big boys," he said.
