Brian Yankelevitz, one of the most popular Long Beach State players of the last decade, rejoins his college coach for the fourth straight season, and his second as a full time assistant coach with the University of South Florida.

At USF, Yankelevitz' responsibilities include on-floor coaching, individual workouts, and game scouting.

A native of Queens, NY, Yankelevitz played for Seth Greenberg at Long Beach State from 1994-95 to 1996-97, appearing in 70 games with 42 career starts. He was a member of the 49ers' last NCAA Tournament team, which lost to Utah, 64-76 in 1995.He was also a member of Wayne Morgan's first 49er team, in 1996-97.

As a senior at Long Beach, Yankelevitz started 24 of 27 games, averaging 6.7 points per game and 6.0 rebounds, which ranked 12th in the Big West. His career-high for scoring was 15 points at Montana, Dec. 21, 1996, and he twice had 11 rebounds in a game, against USC and George Mason, ranking as his career bests.

Yankelevitz was popular at Long Beach because of his blue-collar work ethic and "Charlie Hustle: attitude on the court, often diving for loose balls and filling the lane on fast breaks.

Following his college career, Yankelevitz signed with Maccabi Raa'nana of the Israeli Professional League, where he played one season, before returning to the states.

Prior to his current stint at USF, Yankelevitz served as an assistant coach at his alma mater where he was responsible for strength and conditioning, player development, and the administering of the 49ers' summer basketball camps.
