    The Ladies European Tour's youngest and newest member Amy Yang, 17, who won the ANZ Ladies Masters in Australia in February as an amateur, had a final round 69 and finished in a share of fourth with the two-time French Open champion Veronica Zorzi of Italy, who shot 70.

    Just over a week ago, the 17-year-old Yang turned professional withlittle fanfare, and certainly without the estimated $10 million plus inendorsements received a year earlier when another player of Koreanancestry, based in Hawaii, turned professional as a 16-year-old and hassince mainly made a name for herself by missing cuts on the men's tours.

    Amy won the ANZ Ladies Masters at Royal Pines GC in Australia at the beginning of February 2006 at the age of 16 years, 9 months and 18 days.

    Amy turned professional in October 2006 at the age of 17 and became the Tour's youngest member.She earned exempt status as a tournament winner, which will see her exempt on the LET until November 30th, 2009.

    Amy won the ANZ Ladies Masters with rounds of 70, 67, 70 and 68 for a 13-under-par 275 total.She defeated 22-year-old Catherine Cartwright of the United States in a one-hole play-off but because of Amy's amateur status, Catherine Cartwright claimed the AUS$120,000 first prize.As a result of her playoff victory on Australia's Gold Coast, Amy was invited to play in two further events on the Ladies European Tour as an amateur in 2006: the Evian Masters in France, where she finished tied 53rd and the Weetabix Women's British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes, where she finished 60th.She won the Smyth Salver as the leading amateur in the championship, beating Belen Mozo by six strokes.Amy was also the New Zealand Amateur Champion in 2005.

    In October 2006, Amy made her professional debut at the Dubai Ladies Masters where she finished T4th in a quality field.She earned EUR 24,100 which placed her at 76th on the New Star Money List.The LET Players' Council decided that Amy will compete as a rookie in 2007.

    At the beginning of 2007, she played in the MFS Women's Australian Open, where she tied for 20th place and the ANZ Ladies Masters, where she narrowly missed the cut. Amy intends to play in nine LET tournaments in 2007 whilst continuing with her school studies at Robina High School on the Gold Coast in Australia.

    AHPGA student Amy Yang, a 16-year-old Korean amateur, steamed ahead of some of the world's finest professionals in the ANZ Australian Ladies Masters Golf Tournament 2006 at Royal Pines.

    This was an outstanding performance by young Amy, considering it was only her second appearance in a professional tournament.

    She's who has been playing golf for six-and-a-half years, lives on the Gold Coast, not far from the Australian High Performance Golf Academy.I've been coaching her for just over a year, and am proud that she has lived up to our claims of "lower golf scores in record time"!

    Amy claimed victory in dramatic style at the ANZ Ladies Masters at Royal Pines Resort, just down the road from the AHPGA, with rounds of 69, 66, 70, 70, for a total of 13-under-par 275

    After leading through most of the tournament, Amy eventually won in a gripping one-hole play-off against the 22-year-old American Catherine Cartwright, who recorded rounds of 70, 67, 70, 68, also for a 13-under-par 275 total.

    With her victory, Amy has become the first amateur to win a Ladies European Tour event in 22 years, since Gillian Stewart won the IBM European Open at the Belfry in 1984.

    Amy moved to Australia with her family to play golf just 14 months ago, and since her time at the AHPGA, her performance has improved tremendously.

    There is now tremendous opportunity for Amy.She will undoubtedly invitations to other prestigious tournaments.This will fit in alongside her schooling at the Robina High School on the Gold Coast, where she is in year 11,.

    She has decided to remain as an amateur until she is at least 18 years of age.When she's not being coached at the Australian High Performance Golf Academy , Amy's often seen at the Greg Norman-designed Glades course, where she's a member, and competes off a scratch handicap.
