Ms Yvonne Wu was born in Shanghai and educated in China and the United States and holds a Master's Degree in Asian Studies from the University of Iowa, where she later lectured in Chinese.Ms Wu was previously a university lecturer of English at Fujian Teachers' University.Ms Wu is an accredited Chinese/English professional translator.

Ms Wu worked for Brisbane - based company Hua Lian (China Link) from 1986 to 1989, providing trade consultancy services to Australian and Chinese clients relating to markets including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.Since 1990, Ms Wu has been working as the General Manager of Brisbane-based Taipei Australia International Investments Pty Ltd, which specialises in property developments for overseas investors.

Ms Wu is a Management Committee member of the Queensland Chinese Forum and Vice President of the Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
