Mr. Wu has lived in this valley for many years and has become a leader in the community.
He knows the villagers, his daughter attends the local primary school, and his family tends fields alongside the other community members.
He will be your bridge into Shaxi and will help you understand life in the community and the challenges the village faces.
For more than a decade, Mr. Wu taught English at the local primary school, where he noticed that few students graduated and even fewer went on to study at a university.
Most stayed to work in the fields or traveled to the big cities where they got menial jobs.
He has a dream for a better future in Shaxi and hopes to inspire students to stay in school, study hard and aspire to attend a university.
We are proud to help Mr. Wu achieve this goal.

You may join Mr. Wu on a short hike up the lush hills surrounding the valley to offer food, materials and goodwill to the "Yi," another of the many ethnic groups that populate Yunnan Province.
Or you might help out at the local school.
You will soon learn that many hands make for lighter work, and you will glimpse a way of life that will leave you a more informed and compassionate global citizen.
Yunnan Culture at its Best
When you aren't working on service, Mr. Wu, his family, and the local villagers will introduce you to Chinese and Bai culture.

Once arriving into the village, you will be warmly greeting by our head staff member in the village, Yunxin Wu.
Born and raised in the area, Mr. Wu is an integral community member in Shaxi Valley.
For 13 years, Mr. Wu was an English teacher at the primary school and most recently been a welcoming friend to local travelers looking to spend a night in this special place, and a proud husband and father.
...
These are often designed in cooperation with Mr. Wu; his favorite is to take a short hike up the valley's gorgeous hills, offering food, materials and goodwill to the "Yi" people, proud bearers of another minority community in the diverse and splendid Yunnan Province.
