Head of Social Work at the University of Chester, Professor Aidan Worsley, explained: "The service users and carers, who are members of FOCUS, will be taking on a more active role in social work education. They will be helping to inform the contents of the Approved Social Worker (ASW) programmes to meet the changing needs of people who use care services.
"We will be equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to assess the academic structure of the programmes, and contribute to the development of social work education."
The training, which is due to start in the autumn, will be provided by the University's Social Health and Evaluation Unit (SHEU) in conjunction with Professor Worsley at the Warrington campus.
Professor Worsley added: "The training programme will ensure that the service users and carers have good basic understanding of the post qualification framework.
