Background
Colin joined the University in 1972 as a lecturer and over the years he has progressed 'through the ranks' becoming Deputy Head of Department in 1986.
Colin qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant whilst working for the UK Atomic Energy Authority.He undertook a number of roles within the Finance Directorate including that of Project Accountant for a nuclear reactor development programme.Before joining what was then the Manchester Polytechnic, Colin had worked for the international company Turner and Newall plc as a Financial Analyst in their head office in Manchester.At Turner and Newall he was responsible for the preparation of reports analysing the performance of overseas subsidiary companies.
Over the years Colin has taught on a range of courses throughout the University and whilst these have been predominantly within the Accounting and Finance Department he has contributed to courses in the Departments of Business Information Technology, Business Studies, Communications Media, Computing and Food & Consumer Technology.Currently he is involved in teaching on the ACCA Paper 2.5 course, Financial Reporting, and Financial Accounting on the joint first year programme for the BA Accounting and Finance degree and the BA Financial Services degree.
Colin served as an elected member of the Academic Board for a number of years and until recently was a member of The Business School Board and The Business School Academic Standards Committee.
He has been an External Examiner on ACCA Internally Examined courses at Huddersfield, Nottingham Trent, South Bank and Sheffield Hallam Universities and is currently undertaking that role at Thames Valley University.
Colin has been involved with the assessment of ACCA students for over twenty years, initially with the Taxation paper, but more recently with Paper 2.5, Financial Reporting.
He has been a member of the Local Executive Committee of the Manchester District Society of the ACCA.
He has been involved in civic affairs through his membership of the Warrington Junior Chamber of Commerce (latterly known as BJC Warrington) and was President in 1972.For his services to the organisation he was made a Senator of the international body, Jaycees International, in 1982.
He has served as a Justice of the Peace on the Warrington Bench since 1981.
