Stacey E.V. Wood, a 2004 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, was selected as a 2007 Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellow, following a competitive nationwide contest.The Rangel Fellowship, funded by the U.S. Department of State and managed by the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center at Howard University, supports individuals who want to pursue careers in the U.S. Foreign Service.
Wood, who is from Long Beach, is a 1999 graduate of Poly High School.She received her bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004.During her undergraduate years there, she was an Andrew W. Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, a National Dean's List Scholar, and a National Coca-Cola Scholar.She also held numerous leadership positions, including Vice President of the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
A student of Chinese language and culture at the University of Pennsylvania, Wood became an English language instructor following graduation in Liaoning Province of the People's Republic of China in 2005.She is currently a Logistical Support Analyst for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Washington, D.C.
Through the Rangel fellowship, she will work on international affairs for a member of Congress during the summer of 2007.In summer 2008, the Department of State will send her overseas to work in a U.S. embassy to get hands-on experience with U.S. foreign policy, conditions in a specific country, and the work of the Foreign Service.
