    SIMON HALLOWS WOOD (5075) Aged 74 He was the only child of Peter Hallows Wood (2964) and Amanda Wood and after attending Selwyn House and Medbury School was in School House from 1941 to 1945. After graduating from Canterbury with an LL.B. he was admitted to the Bar in 1951. He then went to Cambridge University and completed a M.Litt. in 1955. While there he was editor of the magazine, Light Blue. While in England he was a representative of the Ski Club of Great Britain at Kitzbul, Klosters and also special correspondent for The Times, London, for winter sports and law, being sent to Norway, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Following Cambridge Simon went to Canada and worked in a uranium mine in a remote area of Ontario. Whilst there he was ordered to fight a nearby forest fire which went on for several weeks. Later he explored Africa and climbed Kilimanjaro. Simon practised law on his own account, with partners at Wood Burn, Wood Hall and finally as a consultant at Wood Marshall. During his career he was the NZ Law Society representative on consumer protection at two International Bar Association Conferences. He was also a lecturer and examiner in the Law faculty at Canterbury University from 1960 to 1967. He was greatly involved in community affairs being on the Canterbury Society of Arts Council, Christchurch Theatre Trust, Ferrymead Museum of Science and Industry (Chairman) and in 1993 was awarded the Queen's Service Medal. He enjoyed skiing, tennis and tramping. He was an enthusiastic member of the Christchurch Club and was researching the history of the club at the time he died.
