We really believe that we've found a diamond in the rough," Cowley County track coach Robert Wood said."We think she has an opportunity to be one of the best because she's strong, and she's quick.Being a sprinter gives her good foot speed, especially in the ring. And it's remarkable to know how far she's come in just one year throwing the shot put.

"In addition to the shot put, we're looking to see how she does with some of the other events," Wood said."Her foot speed will give her an advantage in the hammer throw and in the discus. And the fact that she has softball in her background gives us great hope for her chances in the javelin. Most softball players have that good arm speed you need to throw the javelin."

According to Wood, Cowley County Community College is in its fourth year in the track and field program.
