    "Under one roof, you have wine, chocolate and shopping," said Regan Wood, executive director of Advocates for Victims of Assault.

    The evening features chocolate delights created by about 10 professional chefs and plenty of amateur bakers and children.

    "We've been getting three to four calls a day for two weeks steady from amateurs who want to enter, so I think there's going to be plenty of chocolate," Wood said.

    Regan Wood, director of the Advocates, said the money taxpayers donate will stay in Summit County.Wood sits on the board of the Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence and said she's pushed hard to allocate funds to mountain community programs.

    The Advocates organization operates a shelter for men, women and children in Summit County.The tax checkoff money helps pay for food, medication, clothing and other items families need while staying at the shelter.

    "Last year, we received 2,562 calls to our agency," Wood said.

    Whereas 12 rape victims called the rape crisis line by this time last year, only five victims have called so far this year, said Regan Wood, director of the Summit County Advocates for Victims of Assault.

    Numbers of rape victims seeking assistance in Summit County dropped 39 percent between 2002 and 2003, from 32 cases down to 23 cases.

    Wood and her rape crisis counselors say they have reason to believe the rapes are still happening in Summit County.The typical sexual assault occurs during spring break in the resort communities, Wood said.

    "Last March we had to have backup volunteers during spring break season in the mountains," Wood said.

    Executive director Regan Wood learned at a Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence emergency board meeting last week that the state must refund $459 million to taxpayers in the next two years - and cut $263 million from the budget - under the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights (TABOR).

    Wood put out the plea, and in the past two weeks, the community came forth, donating or helping raise $36,500 to keep the shelter open for another year.

    At a Healthquest fundraiser at Copper Mountain Sept. 11, people participated in a women's health symposium, a fire department auction and dinner, a health expo and 5- and 10-kilometer races to raise $7,000.

    The annual Winemaker's dinner and silent auction at the Hearthstone raised $18,000, and members of the community chipped in an additional $11,600 after a Summit Daily News article and Channel 4 news spot Sept. 5.

    "It's a huge relief," Wood said."I can sleep now."

    Wood said it costs the Advocates about $35,000 a year to keep the shelter running.
