A lot of what we do is addressing their comfort zone , said Kathy Wood , founder and president of Apartment Search.
Destination Services is geared to big corporate clients , such as Boeing and Anheuser-Busch , and professional sports teams , including the Rams and Blues. If Boeing , for example , is transferring an employee to St. Louis , Orr builds a database of personal preferences and other information. This includes whether the transferee wants to rent an apartment or house or buy a home or condominium.Price range , school needs , proximity to work and safety issues also are noted.
Orr talks with the person by phone , then begins looking for matches to the preferences by using Multi Listing Services ( MLS ) for housing , the Internet and data from local police precincts.

Destination Services was hatched in 1997 when Wood helped handle a major group move for the May Co..Apartment Search belongs to a group called Apartments Nationwide , a network of 41 such locator services. At that time , Wood began calling on corporations to see if they were interested in a custom tour service ; she started the service in 1998.
Boeing was the first to say , `We need to do this for every renter that comes through , ' Wood said.
Apartment Search offers a similar service for international relocations , Settling In Services.Besides the tour , the company helps customers get a Social Security card , driver's license , checking account and similar needs.
Trends have changed quite a bit in the 15 years she's run Apartment Search.Back then , 30 percent of clients were renters.Today , nearly 50 percent buy homes , Wood said.
Orr averages 10 to 12 tours a month. She has a 98 percent closing ratio , which means she finds a home for just about everyone who takes one of her customized taxi tours.
Orr and Wood both were born and reared in the St. Louis area and know the area well.We really try and get them excited about coming to St. Louis , Wood said.It helps them with the transition..
