    Libby Wood

    In the news:Libby Wood of Pomfret Center received the Most Improved Player Award this spring for the University of Vermont women's lacrosse team.It was the first year she played lacrosse.

    Quick study:Wood learned the fundamentals of lacrosse in January and went on to start in almost every game this season.Her coach then named her to the New England level 2 team, which competed at the National Women's Lacrosse Tournament at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., on Memorial Day weekend.Wood scored her first goal in the final game of the tournament with a behind the back shot.

    Honors:Wood's award was the second of her college career.She was the Most Improved Player in the fall of 2003 for the University of Vermont women's soccer team on which she played for three years.She was also was named to the America East Conference Academic Honor Roll.She scored two goals this past fall, one against top-ranked Boston University.She was one of only two UVM athletes to play two Division I sports this year and one of the few athletes to receive two Most Improved Player awards.

    Background: The daughter of Robert Wood and Lisette Rimer of Pomfret Center, Wood is a graduate of Pomfret School, where she was voted the most athletic girl in her class.She was captain of the soccer and tennis teams and also played hockey and AAU basketball.

    ELIZABETH WOOD, was a hard working committee member for several years and outside that period made a continuing contribution to the branch.She was a charming and gentle lady who helped many people with Parkinson's, through advice and example.She encouraged others to become involved in the work of the Society and was the early mentor of the present chairman.
