Dr. Derrick Wood is a man who has a big heart to help others.Woods owns and operates Poinsett County Chiropractic Clinic in Trumann. His patients love him, and it does not take long to understand why.

Wood, 32, is originally from Pine Bluff. After graduating from Watson Chapel High School in Pine Bluff, Wood obtained a bachelor's degree in microbiology from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In 1997, he received his master's degree from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas.

Wood bought his practice in October of 2002 and has enjoyed being a resident of Trumann ever since."The people here are great," Wood said."Everyone is so friendly, and they made me feel welcome."

At the root of Wood's chiropractic practice is his desire to help others.Wood admits that it can be challenging to get people to keep their appointments and do what he prescribes, but he says the rewards far outweigh the challenges.

"Seeing a person come in who's in tears because of the pain and then helping them get better is rewarding," Wood said.

Dr. Wood is very dedicated to his patients. He is no stranger to working late hours or on weekends."I try to always be available when someone needs me," Wood said."I know what it's like to be in pain, and I want to help people feel better whenever I can."

Wood's dedication does not go unnoticed by his patients. Many bring him food and pies and take time to pet his lovable nine-month-old golden retriever, Neo.

Dr. Wood also has a desire to help others in the community. He is a member of the Lions Club and serves on the City of Trumann Marketing Committee which worked on recertifying Trumann for Arkansas Communities of Excellence.

During Christmas, Wood set up a food pantry in his office, and patients and friends brought by can goods for needy families.Wood bought additional food and toys and delivered them to four needy families on Christmas Eve.
