The school board's decisions to authorize cutting about 20 administrative and teaching positions, as well as to cut programs, were difficult ones to make, said David Wood, the district's chief financial and legal officer.
"But auditors are confirming the actions taken by the board -- to be sure the budget remain balanced -- were appropriate. They're saying the board did their job as financial overseers," he said.

"We describe our enrollment as flat or at a slight decline," said David Wood, the district' chief financial and legal officer.
However, with tax rates remaining steady and equalized assessed valuation rising, Wood is confident the district can avoid job cuts this spring.
But he acknowledged the district isn't in a position yet to add staff."The revenue growth is slightly more than 4 percent, and spending is slightly less than 4 percent, so there's not much of a window," he said.
He called the information advising district officials to be aware of the decline informative, but no call for worry."The auditors aren't saying we have a lack of controls, a lack of good decisions, so it was a good audit," he said.
