    A Madison systems engineer has announced his candidacy for the new District 25 state House seat.

    Securing adequate money for schools and improving the quality of area highways are Wood's two main concerns.

    "Students in our area consistently have test scores that are among the highest in the state on standardized tests," Wood said."I want to ensure that they have the type of education system that they deserve."

    Wood said a recent article in The Times listed 10 problem spots on U.S. 72 West and that five of them are in his district.

    "The new district was created because of the rapid growth this area is experiencing" Wood said, "and the problems with transportation will only get worse as we continue to grow."

    Originally from Marion County, Wood has a degree in chemistry from Walker College, a degree in political science from the University of Alabama and a degree in computer science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.He has also taken graduate courses in business administration.
