Though the women placed third in a tournament of four teams, they all pushed themselves throughout the race, according to head coach Anna Wlodarczyk.

"I was very proud of all of the women runners," said Wlodarczyk.

"Rebirth of a Champion" tells the story of Anna Wlodarczyk, a coach and physical education instrucor at Chapman University.Few of her students or colleagues understand the amazing journey that she has had over the past 40 years competing at the highest levels as a Track and Field athlete for her native Poland.In the film, Anna recounts high points such as winning the 1980 Indoor European Championships, brushes with glory such as finishing 4th at the 1980 Olympics, and low points such as missing the 1984 Olympics due to the boycott by Poland and other Eastern Bloc countries.Throughout the film, we see how the politics of the Cold War, the Solidarity movement, and economic conditions challenged Anna.Ultimately, we learn how Anna overcame these obstacles and created a new life for herself in California.

Anna Wlodarczyk, 51, (shown competing at Orono 2002 nationals) has been able to maintain her slim shape and incredible fitness since competing for Poland in the 1980 Olympics. If not for politics, she would have been a favorite for gold in the long jump at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

Anna Wlodarczyk lives in Orange, California, a few blocks from where she works as track and cross country coach at Chapman University . It's a small, private Division III school that offers no scholarships. "Recruiting athletes to the sport is difficult because we do not have track facilities," says Wlodarczyk, pronounced Wo-DAR-zhik. Just as modest, the coach shows up at masters meets large and small, sprints down runways and dabbles in hurdles and heps. She then quietly takes home gold medals in any event she tries. At 5-foot-9 and 120 pounds, she's in great shape. And clearly she's world-class in her W50 age group. But she doesn't flaunt her achievements.

INDIANAPOLIS - Olympians Dr. Duncan Macdonald (Honolulu), Trish Porter (Albuquerque, N.M.), Val Barnwell (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Anna Wlodarczyk (Orange, Calif.) and Bud Held (Del Mar, Calif.) will be among the competitors at the 2005 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships Aug. 4-7, on the world's only "Rainbow" track at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
