"This consultation is particularly important for us in UNDP as it will give us ideas and an opportunity to reassess the direction we go in with our support for non government organisations in the Pacific," said Garry Wiseman, Manager of the UNDP Pacific Centre.
...
Mr Wiseman explained that original idea for this project came about in 2005 during a stakeholder workshop which reviewed a UNDP/United Nations Volunteers (UNV) project that had been implemented with Pacific Islands Association of Non Government Organisations (PIANGO) between 2002 and 2005.
Recommendations from that workshop included that a new project be designed that would focus on strengthening the role of CSOs implementing activities to promote the achievement of the MDGs.
VERY PLEASED "I was personally very pleased to see the prominence given to MDGs because a key agreement at the Millennium Declaration in 2000 was that the MDGs could only be achieved if governments, civil society and the private sector are involved and work together," said Mr Wiseman.
