Kathleen Winter has been recognized for a book more than 25 years in the making.Ms. Winter was named the 2007 Winterset Award winner for her book of short stories "boYs" at a ceremony Thursday at Government House.

"I don't think any writer knows how their work will be received," Ms. Winter said."For me this is a huge honour."Some of the stories in "boYs" are more than 25 years old.She said writing is something done alone, and being recognized with an award "feels like a huge wave of love and approval."Ms. Winter lives in Holyrood and has published two books of creative nonfiction, "The Road Along the Shore" and "The Necklace of Occasional Dreams."She is also a columnist for The Telegram.Ms. Winter said she was proud to be recognized along with the other finalists."I'm really aware of how hard everyone has worked on their books," she said.
