The study of biological diversity includes comparative morphology, paleontology, and biogeography, but its principle tool is taxonomy.The first half of this course, whichmay be taken as a half-course, will examine classical figures such as Aristotle, Ray, Linnaeus, Buffon, Cuvier, Agassiz, and Darwin.Students who enrol in the full course will pursue original research in the second term, exchanging progress reports and final papers.
