On the Web, I even found an overworked guy named Nick Wilson, with the Mississippi Municipal League, who had spent much of the past week trying to match up just such would-be adopters as we with communities needing adoption.

At least 30 cities statewide have been adopted by cities in north Mississippi and other states, Nick Wilson of the Mississippi Municipal League said.

"It's the city dating service," Wilson said as he chuckled."Some cities will send items once or twice because that's the most it can do."

Other cities have daily conference calls to discuss immediate and long-term plans, he said.

Wilson said he had heard the Mississippi Association of Supervisors was working on a similar program to match the state's hardest-hit counties with others.No one from the supervisors association could be reached Friday.
