The State of World Liberty Project was founded in 2006 by Nick Wilson, an activist and co-founder of the Libertarian Reform Caucus, an organization working to turn the United States Libertarian Party into a viable political party. The SoWLP was founded after Wilson compiled the first State of World Liberty Index upon realizing that the libertarian and free market liberal movements of the world lack a unified forum. He began the organization with the idea of connecting party members and movements via the internet and information.

He will be studying Asian economics in Japan this fall. Wilson is also a musician, with two solo projects, Exploding Schoolgirls and Mongolia, several bands, including Warm Erasers and Carrot Eaters and multiple former bands, collaborations and projects. He has a record label, Paper Hat Records.
