If you're a brass band fan you'll be interested to know that I've been performing a fascinating piece by composer Mick Wilson with the Parc and Dare Band from South Wales. It's a concerto for 6-string electric violin and brass band!

After the concert we went along to the reception where talked to a number of people, including the composer Mick Wilson who was very interesting.

Brought together by local composer Mick Wilson, the group included a handful of professional musicians, others who had some musical experience, and the biggest group of all - those who had never played a musical instrument and were mystified by black dots on staves.

Mick, together with another founder member Sally Martin, had built all of the original instruments from scrap and scrounged materials as part of a project with York University's gamelan.

Once the project was over, Mick decided to form a community band.

Featuring a wealth of new music for brass band by composers Tim Souster (Echoes), Mick Wilson (Concerto for Six String Electric Violin and Brass Band), David Bedford (Requiem) and Gareth Wood (Concerto for Harp and Brass Band), Electric Brass will also see the premiere of Andrew Powell's new work "Tair Cerdd Sanctaidd" for brass band, male choir, harp and baritone soloist.
