Justin Wilson is a partner at Waller Lansden and focuses his practice on environmental and energy matters, government relations as well as trust and estate planning and charitable organizations.Mr. Wilson is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward White Inc.) for his work in government relations law.
Mr. Wilson serves as Chairman of the Nashville Power Board, which governs Nashville Electric Service, the nation's eleventh largest public power distributor.He is a member of the Environmental Financial Advisory Board of the United States Environmental Protection Agency which provides advice and analysis to EPA's Administrator on paying for the growing costs of environmental protection and how to increase investment in environmental infrastructure through the leveraging of public and private resources.Mr. Wilson also is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Vanderbilt University.
Prior to rejoining Waller Lansden where he was a member from 1976 to 1996, Mr. Wilson spent seven years in government service.From 1997 to 2003, he served as Deputy Governor for Policy to former Tennessee Governor Don Sundquist and as the Governor's Chief Policy Advisor.He was primarily responsible for major programs involving the environment, transportation, land use, natural resources and energy policy.He worked closely with Governor Sundquist on healthcare matters including TennCare reform.He formulated, drafted and presented all the administration's major revenue initiatives to the Tennessee General Assembly and served as its chief spokesperson for tax matters.
In 1996, he served as Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.As Commissioner he was responsible for 3,500 employees, 53 state parks, and the state's regulation of its air, water and other natural resources.In 1997, Mr. Wilson was named Conservationist of the Year by the Tennessee Conservation League.In 2002, Tennessee's 54th state park - a 300-mile trail across the state and the land surrounding the trail - was named the Justin P. Wilson Cumberland Trail State Park in recognition of his "conservation and environmental contributions to the State of Tennessee."
Mr. Wilson's political career also includes membership in the Bush-Cheney transition team (environmental matters) in 2000-2001.In 2000 he was an alternate delegate for the Republican National Convention, and he is the former Treasurer of the Tennessee Republican Party.
