    Jeya Wilson was previously senior advisor on private sector development and director of business partnerships at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York.

    Prior to joining UNDP, she was Chief Executive of South Africa's largest chamber of commerce and industry in Durban, and New Zealand Honorary Consul.She was given recognition for her work on HIV/Aids and business in being named the World Summit on Sustainable Development's business personality on sustainable development.

    She holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford where she was President of the Oxford Union and a Commonwealth Scholar.She is a 21st Century Trust Leadership Fellow and an Aspen Institute Africa Leadership Fellow, and was an American Field Service Scholar.Jeya has lived in Samoa, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand, US and UK.

    Dr. Jeya Wilson, director for business partnerships for UNDP, described the five years since the launch of the Millennium Goal to fight poverty and said, as evidence has emerged, the UN now realizes the private sector is more critical to the war on poverty than governments or NGOs.

    The main change in thinking, she pointed out, is that the profit motive (which some idealistic NGOs scorn) is not antithetical to development and helping the poor.
