Dr. Jeya Wilson, new CBM Vice President for Global Alliances.She aims to form alliances between key role players, which can help CBM to reach more persons with disabilities in developing countries. © CBMOn 1 September 2006, Jeya Wilson began working for CBM as the Vice-President for Global Alliances, based in New York.She will aim to establish or intensify alliances for CBM.
Jeya Wilson about her new position: "My job is about forming alliances between key role players such as governments, NGOs, UN agencies, the academic and business sectors, and pull together talent, time and money so that with the help of global partners, more people with disabilities in developing countries can get access to medical, educational and rehabilitation services."
Jeya Wilson was previously senior advisor on private sector development and director of business partnerships at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York.
Prior to joining UNDP, she was Chief Executive of South Africa's largest chamber of commerce and industry in Durban, and New Zealand Honorary Consul.She was given recognition for her work on HIV/Aids and business in being named the World Summit on Sustainable Development's business personality on sustainable development.
She holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford where she was President of the Oxford Union and a Commonwealth Scholar.She is a 21st Century Trust Leadership Fellow and an Aspen Institute Africa Leadership Fellow, and was an American Field Service Scholar.Jeya has lived in Samoa, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand, US and UK.
