Ralph Willmer, a senior planner and project manager for Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc., met with members of the city's zoning working group, and explained the suggested changes reflect the city's new business needs and also remove antiquated terms.
"There are still things we need to play with a little more," he said during the meeting at the Leominster Public Library.
Willmer said he will work with administrators from HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, who have proposed a major zoning change, in the form of a modified health care overlay district, which would allow them to expand the hospital.

The working group members also asked Willmer to narrow the definitions for mixed-use projects, with some suggesting the inclusion of mixed-use districts.
The VHB proposal defines mixed-use as the combination of any two uses including residential, light industrial, office space, retail and others.
Rowlands and Planning Board Chairman John Souza said the suggested definition opens the door for potential abuse, although Willmer said that's "not really what's intended" by the mixed-use definition.
