Yvette Willis, the new Parent Teacher Student Association president at Crossland, said that under Thomas' leadership, discipline has been enforced much more vigorously at the school, and that conditions had improved markedly.
"We're very concerned about the perception of our school and we're trying to do something about it," Willis said.

Willis said she felt that Crossland was unfairly targeted for criticism by the media and other groups, given that fights and teacher assaults happen at other county schools as well.
"These things happen in other schools but for some reason I think we've been targeted," Willis said."But I do feel we're ready to turn a corner."
Maj. Archie O'Neil, commander at Police District 4 in Oxon Hill, said that despite the March 10 incident he had confidence that the students at Crossland were on the right path.
