A new role has also been introduced, the CDM co-ordinator, whose job it is to facilitate good communication across the project team and generate a health and safety file," explains Tim Willis, partner at the The Wilkes Partnership.

"Overall, CDM2007 calls on greater integration much earlier in the project so that everyone involved in the project, from client to sub-contractor, is aware of their health and safety responsibilities and actioning these at the appropriate time.It is a legal requirement for construction businesses to work to the new regulations and they need to make sure they understand what the changes mean," he adds.
    ...
Willis is keen to stress that the regulations do not only affect new projects and, in some cases, existing projects will have to adhere to the new requirements.
    ...
Despite the new requirements, Willis believes that construction teams should not view CDM 2007 as yet another administrative burden.
