MONTICELLO , GA – Thurman Lee Willis , 80 , formerly of Bakersville , died Saturday , September 1 , 2001 at his residence.He was the son of the late Hosie and Hattie Green Willis and a U.S.Army veteran.Chief chemist for United Feldspar , he was on the Board of Directors and manager of Feldspar Corporation of Spruce Pine.He was a business owner in Monticello and was chairman of the Jasper County Health Department , former president of the Kiwanis Club , charter member and president of the Monticello Downtown Development Authority , chairman of the Red Cross and Heart Fund , board member of the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and Hunter Pope Country Club and was Advisory Director Emeritus at McIntosh State Bank.A member of Monticello Baptist Church , he served as chairman of the Board of Deacons , Sunday School teacher and Training Union director.He also developed the Outreach Program of Monticello Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife , Frances Rhyne Willis of the home ; a son , Thurman L. Willis , Jr of Monticello ; a daughter , Nancy Willis McBroom of Monticello ; a brother , John Willis of Bakersville ; and four grandsons.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. , Tuesday , September 4 at Monticello Baptist Church.
