Martha Willis, 81, president of the League of Women Voters of Porter County, said one reasons why the league tackles so many issues now is because many women today work full-time and don't have time to study political issues.
The league researches issues from abortion to school board candidates so women will know why they're voting, Willis said.

Willis said this is exactly what the league is trying to prevent.Willis researches topics to educate women and make them more confident when they vote. She said voting without understanding the repercussions is "very dangerous."
Still, the league has reached some women who won't waste their right to vote.
Getina Powell, 21, of Gary, said she votes in every election.
