I am pleased to be able to write to tell you that I have appointed David Willis as Housemaster of St Cuthbert's House, from September 2006 in succession to Peter McAleenan.
...
David has taught Mathematics at Ampleforth since 1989. He taught previously at Downside, so he has had a long experience of being a teacher within the Benedictine tradition. As well as his teaching, he has held several posts of responsibility here, including coaching the 2 nd and 3 rd Rugby XVs, as well as being in charge of cross country and tennis. Recently he has been Head of Activities. He has a very clear view of the importance of the Houses in Ampleforth.
David will be joined by his wife Marie, though she will continue her job outside the school as a primary school teacher. David's elder daughter Anna left St Aidan's in the summer of 2004 and his younger daughter Laura has just started in the sixth form here; so David has good experience as parent as well as teacher.
Happily, many of you will already know David well, and you will be aware that he is much respected in the school. -
