AVERY is a second year DPhil student in Classical Languages and Literature at Balliol.She graduated with a BA in Classics and English from Stanford University, USA.She has been involved as a producer or director for numerous professional and student productions in the US and England, notably: Sophocles' Ajax (Atlanta Olympics 1996), Euripides' Hippolytus (Oxford Classical Drama Society 1997), and Original Student One Acts (Stanford 1999, 2000).In addition to founding a travelling theatre troupe and a film/theatre production company, Avery has written, produced, and directed two of her own plays (boy and D.) on the professional stage.She executive produced Medea, the OGP 2002

Avery T. WillisFestival DirectorA Marshall Scholar, Avery T. Willis is currently a 4th year DPhil student in Classics at Balliol.She earned a BA in Classics and English (double honours, distinction) from Stanford University.She has worked in professional and student theatre in the US and UK for over 15 years, primarily as a producer, director, and playwright.Currently President of the Oxford University Classical Drama Society (OUCDS), Avery is also Festival Director of the Oxford Greek Festival 2004.

At Stanford, Avery founded a travelling theatre troupe and a film/theatre production company, and among other projects, was Production Manager for the Stanford Drama Department's Ajax, performed at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.She has also written, produced, and directed two of her original plays on the professional stage (Boy, Hedgerow Horizons, 1996 and D., Stanford University and Hedgerow Horizons, 2000).

We were very pleased to welcome Avery Willis of Balliol College, Oxford as guest of honour for the performances of the 'Medea' and the 'Wasps' and a reading of the section on Socrates' death from Plato's 'Phaedo'.

Avery with her sassy, U.S. vocabulary ('nice job' featuring as a term of high praise) and her very careful attention to production details won the audience over with her nicely-judged comments, richly informed from her own experience of producing the 'Medea' for the Oxford University Greek Play.

In sum another very successful Summer School.
