    Dr. Willis joined RVT in January 1998, after having been in vitreoretinal practice in Houston for over 25 years.He was born in Englewood, New Jersey, and grew up in the northeastern United States.He obtained an B.A. from Indiana University, and then went on to Indiana University School of Medicine to obtain an M.D. in 1966.Following medical school, he completed a rotating internship at the Wilmington Medical Center in Wilmington, Delaware.For the next two years, Dr. Willis served as a captain in the United States Air Force serving at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War.He completed a three-year residency in Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, ending in 1972.In the following year he completed a fellowship in diseases and surgery of the vitreous and retina in Houston at Baylor College of Medicine.Dr. Willis has been in the clinical practice of Ophthalmology, specializing in diseases and surgery of the vitreous and retina, for the past 25 years.He has extensive experience in treating all types of vitreoretinal disease, with special interest in the surgical treatment of macular disease, including macular pucker, macular hole and vitreoretinal traction syndrome.He is a pioneer in the surgical management of macular hole and macular pucker surgery.Dr. Willis is a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and has published several papers on macular pucker and macular hole surgery and was the first surgeon to perform macular hole surgery in the world.He is a member of numerous professional organizations, and has traveled internationally to both teach and learn the latest techniques in vitreoretinal surgery.He has given over 100 lectures internationally on various subjects involving vitreoretinal disease.Dr. Willis has been married to his wife, Suzanne, who is previously a state and nationally ranked amateur tennis player, and is currently an avid golfer with Dr. Willis.They travel around the world looking for new golfing adventures.Dr. Willis' hobbies include golf, water skiing, and piloting his Mooney airplane which he uses to fly patients without transportation (AirLifeline of Texa)s and at no cost to and from Houston for medical treatment throughout the Texas Medical Center.

    Arthur Willis joined the Royal Navy Division the day before WW1 was declared and served on the expedition to Antwerp and subsequently Gallipoli, where he was badly wounded.After a year's convalescence he was able to rejoin the Forces with a commission in the Royal Garrison Artillery.After the war he joined the newly formed Royal Tank Corp and served until he completed ten years in the Forced with the rank of Captain.He had one year at Cambridge before the war and returned to complete his M.A. degree.He was the army high jump champion and represented his country at this sport in the 1924 Olympics.

    Many good years continued at Ascham St. Vincent's with leavers successfully passing entrance exams to public schools of their choice and scolarships being won to Eaton, Malvern and Eastbourne colleges.In 1938 captain Willis had concerns about the threatening situation in Europe.He closed and sold the school.He returned to the Royal Tank Corp and later was promoted to Major.
