The first item considered, the Heart of Alsatian Country Bicycle Race to be held on the weekend of Feb. 8-9, was presented by sponsor Andrew Willis, a board member of the Texas Bicycle Racing Association.Council members had questions about clean up costs and lost revenues.However, park maintenance contractor Ernie Ayala said the cleanup would only cost $150 at the most, which Willis agreed to pay.

Willis said the race, with a time trial, road race, circuit race and the mass start event, which is spectator friendly because of the fast laps, is more likely to draw visitors to the park and promote tourism.

Willis, who agreed to sign a liability waiver and agreement of understanding, told council Castroville would benefit from the race and all costs would be recouped."If 400 people spend the weekend in Castroville and spend an average of $200 each while in town, $80,000 in revenue could be generated," Willis told council.
