North Eastern skipper Adam Willis has participated in several of these matches and has only lost on one occasion.
He said it was disappointing to be told the day before the match that the event had been cancelled.
"I quite enjoy it and most of the other guys - especially here - reckon it's a good opportunity to go and play on turf," Willis said.
"It's a bit of fun under the lights as well and you just play against someone different. It's always good to be picked in a side like that."
For the record, the NE team that was expecting to play was: Adam Willis (captain), Matt Willis (Booborowie); Tim Crick, Jason Schuppan (Burra); Sam Young, Braedon Renshaw (Belalie-Mannanarie); Craig Woolford (vice captain), Brett Murdock, Andrew Milne (Wirrabara-Murray Town); Mark Harvey (Sevenhill); Troy Camilleri (Watervale) and Ryan Slee (Wilmington-Melrose).
