Tom Wills-Sandford is director of information and communications technology for the Federation of the Electronics Industry.

"We firmly believe that there is no link between use of mobile phones and any adverse human health effect.

"This is based on many years of research. The mobile phone industry is a global industry and research into the safety of phones is done on a global scale - probably $60m has been spent on this particular issue.

"You have to look at the totality of science, and when you do you will find that there is no evidence of a link between use of mobile phones and ill health.

But Tom Wills-Sandford, a spokesman for the Federation of Electronic Industries, a U.K. organization that represents cellphone operators and manufacturers, dismissed the issues raised by the program and accused the BBC of taking the scientists' comments out of context.

Wills-Sandford said the overall conclusion from Hardell's study ruled out any link.He claimed the study concluded there was no increased risk of brain tumors from the use of mobile phones.

Based on all the scientific evidence, there is no established link between brain cancer and cellphone use, he told CNNfn.com.It is important that these studies be taken in the totality of science, he added.

Cellphone related stocks were trading lower in London in a flat market.British Telecommunications (BT.A), which owns 60 percent of cellular phone operator.

Cellnet, was off by more than 4 percent.

But one analyst, who asked not to be named, said the health scare surrounding cellphones so far was having little effect on his thinking.

Tom Wills-Sandford , a director of the Federation of the Electronics Industry , an umbrella group for the industry , urged the public not to panic , and said there was no concrete basis for any fears about health risks.

He said : I would say it is important to look at the totality of the scientific research which shows there is no substantive evidence that there is a link between mobile phones and adverse effects on people's health.

It would be impossible to comment on the new research because it has not yet been published , but I would be delighted to do so after April 8..

He added : We are very concerned if our customers are concerned , and we take this issue very seriously , but we don't think there is anything to panic about..

The National Radiological Protection Board said the international consensus was that there was no demonstrable evidence of a health risk from mobile phones.

It added that there was a need for good research into the health impact of using the phones and said that , if research showed a danger , it would review its position.
