David Willingham played basketball and baseball at Mars Hill in the 1960s and later coached both sports at the school.He is now vice president and director of development at Mars Hill.

Although Willingham is proud of Mars Hill's athletic success, he said it's not the primary reason for kids enrolling at the school.

"Athletics is certainly a big part of our school," Willingham said."But we are a Christian school - that's No. 1.Parents send their kids here to get a quality Christian education.We don't use athletics as a recruiting tool, although our reputation in athletics certainly helps our name recognition."
