Christopher L. Willingham, M.D. is a board certified, fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in retinal diseases of the eye such as Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Detachment and Retinal Tears.Dr. Willingham has medical licensure in the states of Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee.After receiving his Bachelor's Degree with a major in Biology in 1993 from LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA, Dr. Willingham completed graduate courses in Physiology and Biochemistry at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. In August of 1994 Dr. Willingham began his studies at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA, graduating in June of 1998.Upon completion of his studies, he began his internship in internal medicine from July 1998 to July 1999, and his residency in ophthalmology from July 1999 to July 2002, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Dr. Willingham then entered into his vitreoretinal fellowship at Charles Retina Institute in Memphis, Tennessee.In 2004, Dr. Willingham joined the practice of Southern Vitreoretinal Associates, P.A. in Panama City, Florida.Among being a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Willingham has received numerous educational honors and awards such as the Fuller E. Callaway Graduate and Medical Scholarship, Sigma Honor Society, Cum Laude and member of GMEC Resident Review Council.His publications and chapters include the Ocular Therapeutics Handbook: A Clinical Manual, 2nd Edition, Angiod Streaks, Gyrate Atrophy and Choroideremia.Dr. Willingham's presentations include Fundamentals of Vitreoretinal Surgery for OR Nurses, Retinal Venous Occlusive Disease, Retinitis Pigmentosa, The Role of Pars Plana Vitrectomy as a treatment option for Diffuse Diabetic Macular Edema and numerous others.Dr. Willingham is practicing ophthalmology at Southeast Eye Clinic in Dothan where he is associated with Jimmy M. Carter, M.D., Allan J. Kelley, M.D., Peter Zloty, M.D., David I. Turok, M.D., Douglas A. Freely, M.D., and Michael A. Griffin, O.D.Dr. Willingham, his wife Ramona and their two daughters Megan and Sarah reside in Panama City, Florida and are active members of Eastgate Church.In his spare time Dr. Willingham enjoys spending time with his family, boating, fishing and tennis.
