"We do a map of the East Valley because that is more recognized as a separate area from the metropolitan Phoenix area," company President James Willinger said."From a mapping standpoint, it's more clearly defined."
Not even Scottsdale makes the East Valley map, he said.Actually, it does, but only part of it.
Wide World of Maps does a northwest Valley map for the Northwest Valley Chamber of Commerce. The Sun Cities, Surprise, El Mirage and Youngtown make that display. Not Glendale. Not Peoria.
...
"Help me define the West Valley," Willinger said.
How about from Interstate 17 west?
How far west should it go? he asked. The West Valley is too big, too ill-defined for its own map, he concluded.
He added that the southwest Valley, with its growth, is about ready for its own map.
Don't bother, Hohman said, because she already does one and has for years. She would be happy to sell it to Wide World of Maps, however.
So where does that leave west and northwest Phoenix, Glendale and Peoria, which have most of the West Valley population?Off the map.
Willinger said: "As the community grows and the demand is there, we make the maps."
