asks Steve Willingale, acting CEO, of the Penrith Valley Economic Development Corporation.
"As well as being based in Penrith and employing local people, these are some of the products which are successfully beating their competition on the world market," he said while leafing through a publication distributed to potential investors in the city, at a recent seminar conducted by Penrith City Council.
"The products may not be stamped "Made in Penrith" but they represent the technological edge and marketing expertise which exists in the city that wins export orders and boosts the local economy."
Mr Willingale said the manufacturing industry in the Penrith region had a long history, one which has involved restructuring and globalisation in recent decades."Those which have weathered the "storm" are innovative, have introduced world-class practices, and are export oriented," he said.
He said Crane Copper Tubing (copper tubing), ACO Polycrete (polymer concrete), Appalachian Log Homes (log homes) ASP Plastics (custom moulding), GPC Electronics (electronic products), Lindsay PieMaking Equipment (pie making equipment), Rondo Building Services (light gauge rolledformed steel products), were among the many local manufacturers using advanced-technology techniques and equipment, and taking on the world and winning.
"Maybe we should have ‘Made in Penrith, Australia' stamped on every product going overseas. It would increase our international recognition no end," he said.
