Sandra Williford, music specialist at Varennes Elementary, has received a $535 grant to help fund her "Bagging for Success" project.

"Learning to play the recorder requires a lot of discipline," Ms. Williford said.

Sandra Williford, a music teacher at Varennes Elementary School in Anderson, received a shipment of 100 small wind instruments called recorders along with songbooks for her fourth- and fifth-graders Friday - paid for with a $530 donation.She has been teaching students to play recorders for six years and in the past has had to use a classroom set of instruments that students could not take home.

"I'm just trying to produce good musicians, so when they go to middle school, those band or string or chorus teachers will have good musicians," she said.

Sandra Williford, K5 Music Specialist at Varennes Elementary School, received a MED in December 2003 from Southern Wesleyan University.
